the fight against suicide alabama

In 2024, we introduced The Fight Against Suicide to the University of Alabama, a fun amateur boxing event surrounded by friends, family, and supporters. This unique event was designed not only to raise awareness but also to break down the stigma surrounding mental health in an approachable and positive atmosphere. By creating an environment where students could rally together for a cause in a dynamic, uplifting setting, we aimed to make the conversation around mental health more accessible and less intimidating. The event provides a platform for participants and spectators alike to recognize the strength it takes to confront mental health struggles, reminding everyone that reaching out for help is as courageous as stepping into the ring.

We started this event after attending the 2023 University of Georgia event, where we saw firsthand the sense of unity it created within the University of Georgia community. We saw how bringing people together for a lively, interactive cause helped promote open conversations and connections that extended far beyond the event itself. Inspired by that success, we knew we wanted to replicate this energy at the University of Alabama, creating a supportive space where students could celebrate resilience and feel the encouragement of those around them. With friends, family, and the Tuscaloosa community cheering them on, we aimed to show that no one faces mental health battles alone, and that, together, weโ€™re stronger in the fight against suicide.
